DC Vertigo’s Hide Nor Hair Brings Living Monster Masks to 1950s Hollywood
DC Vertigo is heading into the shadows of 1950s Hollywood with Hide Nor Hair, a six-issue historical revenge fantasy by writer Adam Smith and artist Bob Quinn.
Movie monsters with a life of their own
Mallory Headley works inside the Leonard family’s special-effects house, creating masks for Galaxy Pictures creature features. Her monsters become screen stars and her employers take the credit, while Mallory remains invisible to the public.
There is one detail the studio does not know: the masks are alive. When they are violently stolen, Mallory sets out to recover the only family that has ever truly belonged to her.
Horror, noir and old-Hollywood glamour
DC describes the series as a mixture of creature-feature fantasy, noir mystery, visceral horror and revenge story. Quinn’s main cover presents the monsters as both frightening creations and characters with their own presence, while the premise uses stolen artistic credit as more than background decoration.
Smith and Quinn are joined by letterer Lucas Gattoni. Issue #1 also has variant covers by Reiko Murakami, Jasmine Darnell and Niko Henrichon.
Release details
Hide Nor Hair #1 is scheduled for comic shops and participating digital retailers on 6 January 2027. DC lists the 40-page debut at $3.99 in the US, with card-stock variants at $4.99. The six issues are planned to publish monthly through June, followed by a collected edition in October.
UK prices and availability will depend on individual retailers and distributors. Ask your local comic shop about pre-orders rather than assuming the US cover price.
