Dune: Awakening Hits Consoles TODAY — And Arrakis Just Got a LOT Bigger

The spice is flowing on a whole new generation of machines. Dune: Awakening officially launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S today, bringing Funcom’s enormous open-world survival take on Arrakis to console players — and it arrives as a considerably bigger game than the one which first appeared on PC.

Arrakis Just Got a LOT Bigger

Console players are not receiving a stripped-back port or being asked to start where the PC version began. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox editions include the additions, improvements and refinements introduced since the original PC launch, alongside a major new update arriving across every platform.

That means optional PvP, separate PvE and PvP versions of the Deep Desert, expanded missions and locations, new weapons and encounters, rebuilt endgame progression and a long list of performance and combat improvements are all present from day one.

Console optimisation also brings Performance and Quality modes, controller-specific interfaces and the sort of haptic rumble that should make an approaching sandworm feel alarmingly close.

You Can Now Face Arrakis Alone

The headline addition is a full single-player mode. The entire game — its survival systems, building, exploration, combat and story — can now be played alone, with extensive settings allowing players to adjust harvesting rates, experience gain, death penalties and other parts of the experience.

It is a sizeable change for anyone fascinated by the world of Dune but previously wary of stepping into a shared survival game. You can now explore Arrakis at your own speed, build without an audience and decide precisely how forgiving — or brutally inhospitable — your desert should be.

Book One Is Finally Complete

Today’s update also adds hours of story content and completes Book One of the game’s cinematic narrative. That makes the console release feel less like a late arrival and more like the definitive starting point: a fuller story, a more flexible world and more than a year of accumulated improvements already included.

Funcom says the result is the biggest and best version of Dune: Awakening so far, whether you are setting foot on Arrakis for the first time or returning after playing the original PC release.

Game Pass, Play Anywhere and a Proper Disc

Dune: Awakening joins Xbox Game Pass today and supports Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing progress to carry between Xbox consoles, Windows PC, compatible handhelds and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Collectors have not been forgotten either. A physical PlayStation 5 edition is available in the UK and selected international markets — and, in an age of boxes containing download codes, Funcom has been very clear that there is an actual disc inside.

That alone may make the PS5 version particularly attractive to physical-game collectors, while Deluxe and Ultimate editions add further digital extras for those wanting more than the base game.

The Filmic Archive Opens Today

The new Filmic Archive DLC also arrives today on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, bringing cosmetic designs inspired by Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two.

Among them are the Aegis of the Unwalked Path armour, inspired by Paul Atreides’ visions of Fremen holy warriors, and the Caladan Stormcoat worn by Paul and Duke Leto. They do not change the fundamentals of survival, but they give film fans another reason to disappear into the wardrobe before venturing onto the sand.

From Collectibles Shelf to Console Screen

Dune has become one of the richest modern crossover worlds for fans of films, games, books and collectibles. Figures, cards, art books, replicas and premium editions have all expanded alongside the recent movies, and Dune: Awakening now gives console players a vast digital Arrakis to place beside those physical collections.

With Dune: Part Three due in cinemas later this year and movie-inspired cosmetics already reaching the game, the connection between screen, controller and collectibles shelf is only getting stronger.

And Arrakis Is Still Expanding

Funcom is already looking beyond today’s launch. Cross-play is planned for a later update, while the Polar Cap will arrive as a free expansion later this year.

The Polar Cap promises a sizeable new survival map with fresh locations, resources, loot, crafting and its own standalone storyline. Instead of battling the merciless heat of Hagga Basin, players will have to survive extreme cold — proving that Arrakis can apparently find entirely new ways to kill you.

For now, though, the console gates are open. Dune: Awakening is available today on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, joins Xbox Game Pass at launch and continues on PC with the same major update.

Choose your path, conserve your water — and remember to walk without rhythm.
