The Smurfs Are Getting Premium Trading Cards — and the Chase Is Part of the Plan
The Smurfs are entering the premium trading-card market. Keepsake and Peyo Company announced a new collectible card programme on 5 October, bringing the long-running Belgian characters to a format increasingly popular with pop-culture collectors.
Nearly seven decades of Smurf history to collect
Peyo’s blue characters first appeared in 1958 and have since moved through comics, animation, cinema, toys and collectibles. That gives a card programme an unusually deep archive to draw from, from Papa Smurf and Smurfette to Gargamel and Azrael.
Why this matters beyond Smurfs fans
Non-sport trading cards are becoming an increasingly visible part of convention and card-show culture. Familiar entertainment licences can bring collectors into the hobby who might never buy sports cards or competitive TCG products.
For ASACC traders, it is another franchise worth watching as details of formats, rarity structure, distribution and release timing emerge.
