Street Fighter Movie Hits UK Cinemas This Week: Cast, Story and Release Date

The new Street Fighter movie opens in cinemas on Friday 16 October 2026, putting Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li at the centre of a 1990s-set World Warrior Tournament. Paramount Pictures, Legendary Pictures and Capcom are bringing the fighting-game series back to the big screen under director Kitao Sakurai.

According to Paramount’s official synopsis, estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters are pulled back into combat when Chun-Li recruits them for the tournament. What begins as a clash of fists and rivalries conceals a conspiracy that forces the pair to confront both each other and their past.

Who plays whom in Street Fighter?

  • Andrew Koji as Ryu
  • Noah Centineo as Ken Masters
  • Callina Liang as Chun-Li
  • David Dastmalchian as M. Bison
  • Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoai as Akuma
  • Cody Rhodes as Guile
  • Jason Momoa as Blanka
  • Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog
  • Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim
  • Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki

The wider roster also includes Eric André as Don Sauvage, Olivier Richters as Zangief, Orville Peck as Vega, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, Rayna Vallandingham as Juli and Alexander Volkanovski as Joe.

Why the 1993 setting is a smart choice

Placing the film in 1993 lands it at the height of Street Fighter II’s arcade and home-console impact. That gives the production a distinctive visual era while letting the story treat the tournament as a cultural event rather than background lore. For longtime players, the crucial question is whether the character relationships feel as recognisable as the special moves.

Director Kitao Sakurai is working from one of gaming’s most identifiable casts. The official trailer promises Hadoukens, roundhouses and tournament spectacle, while the synopsis makes the broken friendship between Ryu and Ken the emotional engine.

Street Fighter opens on 16 October. Visit the official film site for local listings, and explore more gaming and film and TV coverage on ASACC.
