Creature Corps Turns Its New Comic into a Collectible Trading Card Chase
Image Comics is blending a new monster-battling comic with a collectible-card chase. Creature Corps #1 launches on 2 December with a Cover B booster bundle that includes one of two random trading cards, plus a chance to find a holofoil chase card.
Which cards have been revealed?
The publisher has shown three Creature Corps characters: Gleaver with artwork by Bjorn Barends, Regalleaf by Dalton Rose and Drakazoid by Martin Simmonds. Two further card designs are being held back as release-day surprises.
The booster-bundle variant also contains a polybagged secret cover for issue #2. That combination of comic, blind-packed card and chase element makes this release particularly relevant to collectors who cross between comics and TCGs.
What is Creature Corps?
Writer Curt Pires and artist JOK describe a world where time broke in 1999 and creatures from a ruined future became the centre of a hugely profitable combat sport. Former world champion Dusty Gotem walked away at 14, only to be pulled back into the game 17 years later after a time quake leaves his mother injured and facing enormous medical bills.
The series promises a darker, satirical remix of 1990s creature-battling stories. Each issue will also contain an anthology backup called The World of Creature Corps, featuring additional creators.
Collector details
Creature Corps #1 is scheduled for comic shops on Wednesday 2 December. Image Comics lists multiple covers and retailer variants, so buyers chasing one particular edition should confirm the UPC and contents with their comic shop before ordering.
