Artemis Fowl Is Returning as a Disney+ Animated Series—with Eoin Colfer Producing
Artemis Fowl is heading back to the screen—this time as an animated television series for Disney+ and Disney Channel. Disney announced the project at New York Comic Con on 11 October, during a panel celebrating 25 years since Eoin Colfer’s first Artemis Fowl novel.
Colfer will serve as an executive producer on the adaptation. Disney says the series will dig deeper into the characters and lore of the books, giving the author’s criminal-mastermind hero and high-tech fairy world room to develop across episodic storytelling.
What is the Artemis Fowl animated series about?
The official description follows 13-year-old genius Artemis Fowl as he discovers an underground civilisation of armed, dangerous and technologically advanced fairies. Artemis plans to capture one and steal its magic in the hope of healing his dying mother and saving his family.
That setup comes directly from the core appeal of the novels: Artemis begins as a calculating antihero, while the fairy world combines folklore with gadgets, procedure and action. Animation should give the production freedom to realise both halves without compressing the story into a single feature.
Who is making it?
Alongside Colfer, the executive producers are Ben Juwono, whose credits include Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur and Big Hero 6: The Series, and Colleen Evanson, known for DuckTales, Monsters at Work and Prep & Landing: The Snowball Protocol.
Disney has not yet announced a release date, episode count, voice cast or first full trailer. That makes this a genuine greenlight rather than a launch-date announcement, and those details remain the next milestones for fans to watch.
A 25-year franchise gets another chance
The first Artemis Fowl novel arrived in 2001. Disney says the books have now sold more than 35 million copies and been translated into 48 languages. The animated project therefore arrives with a large existing readership—and an opportunity to build a version designed for long-form adaptation.
